New Plate Glass

1994.02.03

In the 1940s, MacLeod permanently moved to New York, a
city that greatly influenced her artistic practice but
maintained her preference for a narrative technique and
subject matter that did not fit easily into the abstract art
movement common at the time. In 1947, she launched a
memorable touring exhibition in Canada entitled, Manhattan
Cycle, a show about metropolitan New York, and its
intended audience was the small-town Canada she had left.
