Charles Chisholm was born in Inverness, Cape Breton. His career in art began in leading Halifax newspapers as a staff artist from 1956 to 1962. He then moved to Detroit to further his studies at the Detroit Institute of Art. While working as an illustrator in Detroit, Chisholm won many awards, including the American College Booklet award for design and illustration. In 1966, Chisholm returned to Halifax and took the position of Art Director for Simpson's of Halifax. Then in 1972, he moved to Cape Breton to paint full-time. Chisholms' works have been exhibited throughout Canada, and remain in collections throughout Canada and the United States.
