Edge of the Woods

2007.04.40

Born in Halifax, 1918, John Cook began painting overseas during World War 2 while serving with the Canadian Army Signal Corps. Later Cook studied art in England, Belgium, and Nova Scotia. He painted landscapes, often of the older parts of Halifax that were being destroyed. Many of Cooks paintings were done on the spot, one step ahead of demolition crews. Cook has exhibited all over Canada, and he painted with many other artists in Nova Scotia.
